Import Input Data from SAP2000
FOUNDAXIS extracts the data necessary for the design of the foundation system from the SAP2000 model of a building. This model must have defined load combinations and be calculated. The model must be saved from SAP2000 in s2k format.
Specifically, the following are extracted from the s2k file:
- Support positions: partially or fully restricted nodes.
- Support reactions: Reaction forces are considered for the load combinations calculated in the model.
- Walls: Restricted nodes belonging to shell elements are identified as walls.
The following steps must be followed when selecting the import of an s2k file:
- Select the corresponding file from the local device.
- Select the service load combinations (those that will be used for the sizing of foundations).
- Select the ultimate load combinations (those that will be used for the design of steel reinforcements).
- Enter/Edit material densities and evaluation parameters (can also be edited later in the modeling/analysis space).
- Enter/Edit basic geometric parameters of the foundation system (can also be edited later in the modeling/analysis space).
By pressing the COMPLETE button, the data is extracted from the s2k file and loaded into the modeling/analysis space.
By pressing the COMPLETE button, the data is extracted from the s2k file and loaded into the modeling/analysis space.
TIP
TIP: Procedure to generate file from SAP2000:
3D View
1. In the 3D view, position the model to achieve a side view (it is recommended to disable perspective display), create a selection box by dragging the mouse from right-down to left-up, in order to select all the restricted nodes of the model base, including the pillars and walls that reach them:
Export
2. Select from the tools menu: File/Export/SAP2000 .s2k Text File... :
Save file
3. Select the full MODEL DEFINITION folder and the ANALYSIS RESULTS/Joint OUTPUT/Reactions subfolder (in red in the figure below), press OK and save the file.
RELEASE V1.0BC IMPORTANT NOTE: This release only supports Tonf/m or Kip/ft or kN/m units. Do not forget to activate your project to these drives before exporting the s2k file.
